Three fine day

The GOP hits just keep on coming. Earlier this month, the GOP agreed to pay a settlement of $135,000 to Democrats for election rigging in the New Hampshire phone jamming scandal, in which two Republican operatives were convicted and are now serving time. Now comes news that the Federal Elections Commission has fined the Swift Boat Veterans for "Truth" almost $300,000 for improper conduct during the 2004 election. Their campaign received millions from Robert Perry and this, the FEC said, was in contravention of election rules governing non-profit 527 groups.

Two liberal groups operating under this regulatory umbrella, The League of Conservation Voters and MoveOn.org were also fined for similar violations.
