Nothern exposure

Looks like the wingnuts are going to have to crucify Oliver North as a "defeatocrat." Yes, Oliver freaking North thinks sending more troops into Iraq is a mistake.
For months, advisers to President George W. Bush have been trying to convince the commander in chief that more U.S. troops in Iraq will improve prospects for victory. Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), both recently returned from Iraq (and a courageous surprise stopover in Ramadi, capital of bloody Al Anbar Province) also support adding more American troops. Unfortunately, they are wrong.

McCain and Lieberman talked to many of the same officers and senior NCOs I covered for FOX News during my most recent trip to Iraq. Not one of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Guardsmen or Marines I interviewed told me that they wanted more U.S. boots on the ground. ...
And, in conclusion:
A "surge" or "targeted increase in U.S. troop strength" or whatever the politicians want to call dispatching more combat troops to Iraq isn't the answer. Adding more trainers and helping the Iraqis to help themselves, is. Sending more U.S. combat troops is simply sending more targets.
Gather up Barney, George. He and your other poodles, McCain and Lieberman, are rapidly becoming the only ones supporting your ridiculous escalation. And, I'm not so sure about Barney...

Unfortunately, this will only make Bush more resolute in sending in more troops.

misanthrope,

I doubt Bush could be more resolved. He is going to do what he wants, regardless of the criticism. When the generals oppose him, he bumps them off the boat and brings in a new batch who will tow the line. Casey and Abizaid are gone and about to be replace with more malleable and sympathetic soldiers.

wit should now be clear to everyone - considering the dems will barely talk about iraq, never-mind take a stand - that they are as stupid as the republicans are corrupt.

i'm sorry, but i just can't figure out what kind of cover those freaking wimps are waiting for. colin powell, the entire military leadership, the presidents daddy, now ollie north - what, are they afraid of losing the neocon vote in '08? or maybe, they've been out of power so long that they got to believing all the right wing rhetoric that they lacked ideas.

congratulations nancy pelosi, you are now the leader of a colony of invertebrates.
