Apocalyspe Right Now

Right wingers are in a frothy lather. It is a right wing, Depends-laced circle jerk of the most apocalyptic kind. Just like the last one, actually. You may not hear this from the dastardly liberal media, but The Jawa Report says that, according to Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir, al Qaeda has already smuggled nuclear material across the Mexican border and will "nuke US in late September."

These are, of course, the same passle of pantywaists who are constantly peeing themselves about almost everything and have never hesistated to sound the alarm at the slightest rumour. Recall their recent self-soiling that Iran might launch an attack on August 22 because, as Bernard Lewis noted in the Wall Street Journal,

Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427.

Which, by some form of logical canoodling, indicated to Lewis that,

this might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world. It is far from certain that Mr. Ahmadinejad plans any such cataclysmic events precisely for Aug. 22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in mind.

That date came and went, indicating that Lewis' prediction was indeed very far from certain. And while the heavy hitting tighty righties seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, they also conveyed a tinge of ... disappoinment, a disappointment borne of the realisation that now they would have to fret about about what to fret about next.

Not to not worry, however. The Osama switch has just been flipped. That ought to last a little while anyway.
