Think of the children

“I’m not going to resign. I’m going to stay focused on protecting our kids.”
-- Alberto Gonzales,
March 22, 2007
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, both already under siege for other matters, are now being accused of failing to prosecute officers of the Texas Youth Commission after a Texas Ranger investigation documented that guards and administrators were sexually abusing the institution's teenage boy inmates.

Justice Department letters describe that there was no evidence that "physical pain" occurred during the assaults. Yes, the DoJ itself actually called the systematic abuse of incarcerated teens "assault," but that this was not worthy of prosecution because no one complained about physical pain.

This last story comes from World Net Daily. Yes, even the wingnuts are revolted by Gonzales.

His "looking after the kids" line was always the most revolting bile, but this takes it to a new level.

Whether they know or understand it or not, so much of this hypocrisy comes from exactly the mindset. We've heard the "Never Forget" cry of revenge about 9/11 and to do that, the Repubs create a permanent memorial to the victims by interring their remains into the pot holes of New York city. Protecting the children? I don't even know what they mean by that.

What happened to Foley, the self-appointed guardian of youth, trying to actually hook-up with them? Nothing. Rehab. Any normal bloke would wind up locked away and listed as a registered sex offender or predator -- whatever the term is. Now the DoJ has refused the prosecution of other Republican friendly folks in Texas.

Their vile, self-serving hypocrisy is boundless. They use 9/11 victims as road fill and either are sexual deviants or ignore that behaviour in fellow Repubs. As one friend of mine put after Katrina, which should have been the ultimate wake up call to this country: they just don't care. But I think it is more than that: they don't care and they see opportunity to further an agenda (dispersing a concentration black population).

Vile.
