Flip flop voters

As an interesting follow-up to the now completed Lieberman/Lamont primary race, I just got an email from MCM at News from Underground that contained an interesting little factoid. Just five months ago, Lamont was an outsider with little chance. The poll question back then,
If the 2006 Democratic primary for United States Senator were being held today, and the candidates were Joseph Lieberman and Ned Lamont for whom would you vote?
The numbers did not look good:

REGISTERED DEMOCRATS Tot Men Wom

Lieberman 68% 63% 70%
Lamont 13 20 9
SMONE ELSE(VOL) 1 - 2
WLDN'T VOTE(VOL) 1 1 2
DK/NA 17 16 17

People, especially Dems, are clearly done with the Iraq war and want out. That has been obvious for sometime. How is it an old politicker like Lieberman didn't get this? Was he just too afraid of being labelled an al qaeda lover? At the very least, you would think he would have just shut up and voted with Republicans quietly. Why publicly defend a president hovering around 30%? Worried Republicans aren't even doing that.

This also tells us that there is hope against entrenched incumbents yet.
