Grilling time

World Bank Panel to Grill Wolfowitz

It's what's for dinner.

Given the objective of fighting corruption in ‘client-countries’ of the World Bank, there is no question that a CE who bends the rules himself must go to keep credibility of the institution. But frankly, I feel the question of whether or not Wolfowitz resigns is pretty irrelevant. If he stays, we know he will remain a puppet on the strings of the Bush administration. If he resigns, voluntarily or not, he will be replaced by … another Bush puppet. Who cares? Which European leader is courageous enough to stake a stand against Bush on this issue? None of course, as with so many other issues.

You're right, of course. It won't matter which Bushie is at the World Bank. But there should be some recognition of the need to keep up appearances.
