Brush off

At this point, I have yet to figure out why people are getting so irked that, while the world burns, Bush is going on yet another vacation. Can this be a surprise? Aren't we used to this by now? And, more importantly, it simply further indicates that Bush is not the one in charge. We have known this, too, for quite sometime. Unfortunately for the Middle East, it doesn't really look like anyone other than Olmert and Nasrallah are in charge.

This is something the American public should be used to by now. Vacations before 9/11 and during Katrina, prety much told us all we needed to know about Bush's "involvement" in governance.

Oh, I understand that, on a higher level, it is an embarrassment. But, really, we've long since crossed that line. Be gone, Bush, be gone. Clearing brush is probably the least destructive thing the idiot can be doing right now.

Even Blair has been shamed into cancelling his this year.

Bush is obviously beyond shame.

Kel,

Shame would imply some recognition that what one is doing is, perhaps, not quite acceptable or prudent and that there is a measure of conscience behind that recognition. Bush has neither the conscience nor any recognition of his immense failings and crimes as the president.

It is all of a piece with this administration's position that the president can do no wrong and that everything he does do is not only legal, but necessarily good for the country: even vacationing while war rages.
